Responses of Four Peatland Emergent Macrophytes to Salinity and Short Salinity Pulses

چکیده
Abstract Sea-level rise intensifies saltwater influx into coastal wetlands causing osmotic stress and probably changing vegetation composition. To determine especially the impact of salinity pulses that occur during flooding events, Typha latifolia , Carex acutiformis Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani Phragmites australis were exposed to different regimes consisting control (permanently freshwater permanently brackish water) alternating water with exposure durations (2 days – 2 fresh; 4 fresh). Plant height, leaf area, chlorophyll fluorescence, root:shoot ratio photosynthetic pigments measured. Salinity suppressed growth T. resulting in shorter smaller mean area higher ratio. had Photosynthetic pigment fluorescence both species not affected. Shorter but frequent (alternate freshwater, freshwater) decreased while C. was did affect height P. S. tabernaemontani. showed signs successful acclimation through a:carotenoid high Δyield at low irradiance. Our results imply increasing seawater peatlands, may experience retardation or even be replaced by since they are more resilient against pulses.

Evaluation of Responses of Iranian Melon Cultivars to Salinity Stress
To study the response of Iranian melon cultivars to salinity stress a factorial experiment based on RCBD with 3 replications was conducted. Four salinity treatments (0, 6.6, 8 and 12 dS/m NaCl( and 16 muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.) cultivars namely ‘Dargazi’, ‘Khatooni’, Abbas shori’, ‘Chah paliz’, ‘Zard Ivanaki’, ‘Gorgab’, ‘Gongi’, Saderati’, ‘Dastgerd’, ‘Sabz Isfahan’, ‘Jalali’, Ghasri Mashha...
متن کاملAssessment of Root Growth and Physiological Responses of Four Bread Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) Cultivars to Salinity Stress
Enlarged root systems that extend into the salt affected soil improve water and nutrient capture by plants and can increase plant productivity. In order to examine root system characteristics of four bread wheat cultivars contrasting in salt tolerance (Arg, Ofoq, Tajan and Morvarid) a greenhouse experiment was conducted with applying two salinity levels (0 and 150 mM NaCl) on plants grown in PV...
متن کاملUnderstanding salinity responses and adopting ‘omics-based’ approaches to generate salinity tolerant cultivars of rice
Soil salinity is one of the main constraints affecting production of rice worldwide, by reducing growth, pollen viability as well as yield of the plant. Therefore, detailed understanding of the response of rice towards soil salinity at the physiological and molecular level is a prerequisite for its effective management. Various approaches have been adopted by molecular biologists or breeders to...

متن کاملPhenotypic and metabolic responses to drought and salinity of four contrasting lentil accessions
Drought and salinity are among the major abiotic stresses which, often inter-relatedly, adversely affect plant growth and productivity. Plant stress responses depend on the type of stress, on its intensity, on the species, and also on the genotype. Different accessions of a species may have evolved different mechanisms to cope with stress and to complete their life cycles. This study is focused...
